Over the past few weeks, we've been chatting to Blakely Trettenero, a Florida native, and the face behind one of our favourite Instagram travel blogs, @hungryfortravels. It depicts her travels, lifestyle, and experiences, and photos of her looking effortlessly stylish while she's doing it. You can also check out her Hungry for Travels website here, where you'll find useful travel tips, city guides, and more. Apart from travel, she's also a huge foodie and has a separate food blog tracking her dining experiences around the world. At just 28 years old, she has created a huge following with over 27,000 Instagram followers, 12,000 YouTube subscribers, and 16,000 Facebook followers between her two accounts. We asked her a few questions about her travels, life as a blogger and her wardrobe and here's what she said:
When did you start blogging?
I started my first website (Everyday Gourmet with Blakely) when I was in culinary school about 8 years ago. My second website which is geared towards traveling exclusively was launched in February 2016.
What is your favorite item of clothing in your wardrobe right now?
A pair of trousers I purchased last week in Istanbul. They're high waisted with small stripes and look super chic. I've already worn them too many times.
What's your favourite outfit for spring/summer?
My favorite spring attire will always be a sundress. They never go out of style.
What is your favourite picture you've ever posted?
My favorite picture I've ever taken was taken last summer when I was in Nepal. I came across a group of Sahdus and the picture is of me with them after they blessed me. The colours are so vibrant and beautiful.
When it comes to shopping on your travels, what type of article do you get most excited to buy?
I always get the most excited about a purse. I try and buy one in every country I go to!
If you like bags, you NEED to come shopping in Buenos Aires. There are lots of boutiques selling gorgeous, handmade leather purses. Have you ever travelled to Buenos Aires?
Unfortunately I haven't been to Buenos Aires yet. I'm dying to go though... Hopefully soon!
Why is fashion important to you?
I think fashion is an expression of who you are and how you want to come across. Being fashionable and looking good on the outside makes me feel good on the inside.
How are you different from other bloggers?
I'm different from other bloggers in that my site isn't just about me. It's more about where I've been and what I've experienced. I've never wanted my site to be just pictures of me, I want it to be filled with beautiful pictures of the world.
How would you describe your style?
Living in Florida means I never really have to worry about a winter wardrobe so most of the year I'm in fun dresses and breezy outfits. I'm a more casual-chic girl than anything.
What is your favorite place you have travelled to?
It's hard picking just one country because every destination is amazing in its own way. I was in Bhutan last September and I fell in love with its vibrant culture and people.
What kind of lifestyle do you aspire to have/portray on social media?
Well I feel like I've recently been just on the go all the time. It's been amazing and I love sharing my adventures.
Why is travelling important to you?
Travelling is important to me because it puts things in perspective. Growing up in the US we are so incredibly lucky and fortunate to have opportunity to succeed. We tend to have a terrible habit of comparing ourselves with everyone else, especially now with social media. Seeing happy people in a third world country that have absolutely nothing puts what really matters in perspective. It makes me grateful.
