What to Buy in Buenos Aires

With so many different shopping neighborhoods and designer stores to explore, one might ask the question, “Where do I even begin?” Known for its innovative and artisanal fashion scene, Buenos Aires certainly has it all. However, there are a few specialties that any curious shopper must know about. This blog post will serve as a guide to navigating exactly when to invest in designer products.

Leather ! From jackets to shoes, the city is filled with Argentine leather designers and their original pieces. For example, Nimes is a Buenos Aires natural leather brand with artisanal bags and clothing to choose from. Silvia y Mario, a leather atelier well known for its custom leather jackets.

Natural Fibers. When in Buenos Aires, we suggest exploring products made of natural fibers. There are many sustainable luxury brands working to preserve local communities, care for the environment, and generate local wealth. You can find unique pieces made of materials such as alpaca wool or baby llama in the forms of blankets, scarves, and rugs. Some of our favorite brands include Animaná (left) and Guacha Textil (right).

Finally… Statement Pieces. When exploring this vibrant and culture rich city, it becomes crucial to find an item of clothing and piece of jewelry that can remind you of this energy. Whether it is a colorful handbag from Guadalupe Martiarena or a delicate piece from Inés Bonadeo Jewelry, find one piece that accomplishes just this!

Stylish leather handbags handcrafted in Buenos Aires.

Having provided design experiences in Buenos Aires for many years, we can say with conviction that one of the most popular shopping requests we receive from our clients is for leather handbags and purses, handcrafted in Argentina. Buenos Aires is famous for its leather goods, but, unless you're in the know, finding something truly unique can be a challenge.

If you're in Buenos Aires or planning to visit soon, and you're in search of a one-of-a-kind leather handbag then let us introduce you to this gorgeous new leather brand on the BA design scene.

Designer Maria Eugenia Antunez, graduate of the University of  Buenos Aires, worked for a couple of well-known Argentinian leather brands before launching her own brand Amulett. Her background as a fashion designer and passion for anything related to art and design led her to create a fun line of leather accessories that we think you'll love.

Amulett's handbags are not only aesthetically beautiful but also very functional. They come in geometric shapes and a vibrant palette of colors and combinations.

The new brand offers two lines; one features more statement pieces that are constructed in such a way that you can fashion two different bag styles in one through simple folding techniques. The second line consists of more classic, everyday accessories such as tote bags and wallets. In both cases, the buttery soft texture of the leather and the contemporary cuts set them apart from other leather bags on the scene.

Handmade in limited editions, the collection ticks all the right boxes: unique, timeless pieces that you will treasure in your wardrobe for years to come, crafted by a local Argentine designer.

For the full experience, we recommend a visit to Amulett's studio, housed in a striking old cotton factory in the traditional neighborhood of Villa Crespo (next to Palermo Hollywood). An emerging creative hub where numerous emerging designers have recently opened showrooms. If you're a fashionista that likes to explore then this should be a must on your itinerary!

Statement Pieces By Designer Michelle Mugrabi.

Argentine designer Michelle Mugrabi is a talented young artist who, at the early age of sixteen, knew what her passion was, to be a fashion designer.

Since that moment, she has never stopped learning and is always finding new ways to express her ideas by designing pieces that really stand out from the crowd.

After finishing her studies in 2018 at the University of Buenos Aires and gaining solid experience working for various fashion companies, we can say that she definitely made it by creating a unique product with her own stamp of individuality.

Michelle's handbags, fanny packs and clutches are not just functional accessories, they are portable sculptures, which combine the worlds of art and design. These are the type of statement pieces that immediately catch your eye and intrigue you with their unexpected shapes and materials.

Her artwork is inspired by nature and everything that coexists within it. After an extensive design process and exploring different combinations of materials to see how they work together, the final result is these unique and amazing bags made from acrylic, leather and, on some occasions, metals, wood and wool. Every part is carefully handmade by different artisans.

Recently she has also included a new item in her collection that we love, merino wool sweaters. These pieces are not only special because of their premium quality and design, but also because of the two-needle technique she uses. This is a very intricate and lengthy knitting technique that adds value to the piece. The most iconic sweater from her small and well curated collection is entitled "Metal" and features metal and leather embellishments. A real statement piece.

Michelle Mugrabi is definitely one of our favorite designers of the moment, because of her fresh ideas and enthusiasm, and we're really looking forward to seeing her career grow. As she said to Shop Hop BA in this interview, "This is just the beginning".

If you love Michelle's work and aspire to own one of her unique pieces then we can help you get in contact with her and assist you with everything you need to make your dream come true!
